Surprise birth.

 What a wonderful surprise! The adult Platy fish just gave birth to three to six babies. The little guys are as small as a grain of rice. Just realised the little speck swimming around the tank. More updates on their growth later…

Fish Paradise

 

        I finally finished the project for the fish. A bio active vivarium with floating plants, twigs, a working waterfall  and a fog machine. This is a wonderful imitation of the intertidal mangrove forest for all fish to enjoy. This is home to a Mickey Mouse platy fish, a school of neon tetras, and an albino pleco. For the cleanup crew, we have a handful of mystery snails.

        Will update on the ecosystem and hammy. I have a small surprise for you. I got another baby Asian giant mantis although this one is green.

Update on the bird.

 

    Just some news on the little bird. We phoned the officials to help us and they adopted it, promising to care for it and will call us to see when they release it. Hope the little bird will survive.

Birdy surprise.

      I came back from school when something green was fluttering near the floor. It turned out to be a newly fledged baby Oriental White eye. It couldn’t fly but was walking rapidly along a wall.

I quickly rushed home to take a net and a cage and grabbed the little poor thing. It was chirping with terror but was better when I offered some apples to it.

           The baby bird was photographed and it was told to the experts. I hope they can help. I will update later.

2 new arrivals

 

         Good afternoon guys, just an update on my 2 new pets and future projects.

I recently bought a roboski hamster who has been a bit shy in the past few days. It might be from travel shock but I think he will become better. I have been interacting more with him lately and he is comfortable with hand feeding but does not prefer to be held too much. He loves to exercise and runs on his wheel all throughout the night as he is nocturnal.

     Hammy is a peaceful and wonderful creature to have in the house but even then, in the long holidays, something vibrant was missing in the house. That is why I started on my next project, a complete rainforest lake vivarium with exotic fish. That is when I built this tropical aquarium with neon tetras, Mickey Mouse platies and pleco fish to keep the tank clean. It also rains in the tank due to a high pressure sprinkler and a fog machine.

       I think the tank also kind of looks empty so I will be upgrading this simple setup into a pauludarirum with  a working waterfall, pond minnows and frogs.

Ant friends

Hello, lavender has not done anything interesting so today I’m going to post about 3 new members of the pet journal. Welcome our first one, my bullet ant queen, the dark embers empress. She has a few eggs and she is definitely very active and aggressive.

Coming up next, please give way to my second one, my marauder ant queen, the black empress.This one is a huge tank full of eggs. She just fits perfectly into my test tube. She laid a huge clutch of eggs at the beginning.

 

Last but not least, welcome another marauder ant queen to this blog. She is the titanic army empress. She immediately shed her wings after I collected her. She too has a hoard of eggs.

    Let me share the story behind how I got them. 

After my athletics class, I happened to see many dried up and dehydrated queen ants on the floor. I only spotted two bullet ant survivors. I released one to let nature take its course and rescued the more vulnerable one in a test tube.

   The next week, again after my athletics class, super huge ants started to crash in the gallery. Invasive yellow crazy ants were ripping them to pieces. My single test tube was too small for them to fit. Luckily, after last week’s mission, some former members of my atheletics ant club had brought boxes to catch them. I caught two of the marauder ants and released another survivor into the forest. In a nutshell, this is how I got to own these amazing species.

Update on Lavender

     Lavender has grown a lot in size and definitely eating more red runners. I do not feed her crickets as they often kill the mantis. This is her balancing and riding on a fingerboard leisurely. I use my art stand as a photography stand and a climbing pole to entertain this cute little fella. I made a new mantis park as shown below

      Her wing buds are also developing even though she is only L5. She is expected to become an adult after the next molt. I’ll update after she has molted and has been released into the mantis park.
